Passengers are advised to check before they travel.

It comes a week after the two Metro mayors for the North West of England demanded that the government take action over "dire" rail services in the region.

Northern Rail said it would like to assure passengers that the company is "doing everything possible" to get services back to an acceptable level after a higher than normal number of cancellations and delays.
