The fire chief who says he was hung out to dry and used as a scapegoat after the Manchester Arena bombing

Lord Bob Kerslake issued us with this statement in response to Peter O'Reilly's interview.

The Mayor commissioned an independent expert panel to examine the tragic events of May 22 2017. We were supported by a team with extensive experience of emergency services and emergency planning - including a senior former member of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service staff. As part of the review we interviewed a large number of people, including many from GMFRS. The final draft of the report was shared with key individuals before publication to give them the opportunity to raise any concerns. This included the former chief fire officer.

I am confident the report accurately and honestly reflects what happened that night. We reached our conclusions independently, based on those we spoke to, the evidence we were presented, and our professional judgement and experience.
