Robin McCallum's weather blog

I've been following someone on Twitter who is turning her frustration with the (so far) disappointing summer into inventing a pithy word to reflect the current conditions.

The current favourite is "grot" which is a fusion of grey and hot. Grey is spot on. Hot less so. Humid would better describe today's temperatures and if you put that together with the root of grey you get "grumid" which I think is impressive. Not only does it encapsulate our weather but it also, by its very sound, implies an element of misery which is entirely appropriate.

The blanket of grey will start to break up later tomorrow as we enter a more showery phase for a few days so we will be faced with a slightly different linguistic challenge. If it can distract us from the rain, even for a short time, I'm all for it....
