21 people were arrested overnight by a Met Police operation targeting suspected criminals travelling through London. Amongst those arrested was a convicted serial sex offender who was wanted for another sex assault.
Operation Pegasus saw around 300 officers deployed across six London bridges and at key train and bus hubs. Officers used trained dogs and knife arches to check for people carrying drugs and weapons at Vauxhall, Clapham Junction and Tooting Bec stations.
The police also used Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems on six bridges to identify cars belonging to criminal suspects. 192 vehicles were stopped and 13 vehicles seized.
Inspector Matthew Butterworth explained what they were doing.
Amongst the people arrested was a known gang member who was in a car with false plates and a man who was in possession of a baseball bat.
