A Metropolitan Police officer has been arrested on suspicion of theft.
The officer, named by sources as Pc Richard Bent, was held after property belonging to Scotland Yard went missing.
Pc Bent has since been suspended by the force while an investigation takes place.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Officers from the Met's Directorate of Professional Standards arrested a male police officer on 13 July on suspicion of theft from the MPS.
"He was subsequently arrested in connection with a further count of theft.
"He was taken into custody at a south London police station and subsequently bailed to return on a date in mid-October, pending further investigation."
The Westminster-based officer was suspended from duty on July 14, the force said.
Reports have linked last month's arrest to a series of high value thefts from crime victims who have died. Items such as cash and jewellery are said to have been stolen.
Items are also said to have gone missing from Westminster police station.
