We can afford to relax a bit over the next few days.
The Beast is skulking away to the Southeast, leaving a trail of destruction it its wake, but allowing much needed drier and brighter conditions to push in.
Our part of the country has escaped the worst of it but we're not exactly unscathed and although we haven't seen the shocking rainfall figures notched up elsewhere we've had a real soaking.
Although the rain's now stopping there's still the issue of 'runoff' which is the rain on higher ground finding its way down into the rivers meaning levels could continue to rise despite it being dry.
As it's autumn we should probably remain awake to the possibility of a return to stormy conditions at some point but for the moment we can breathe a little easier.
