Eric Pickles MP is launching a new pilot scholorship at the University of West London (formerly known as Thames Valley University), for students and chefs wanting to study Asian cuisine.
The four scholarships, worth £3,750 each, will see students have the opportunity to undertake placements at high end south Asian restaurants, and be mentored by some of the most talented chefs in the Asian sector.
The scholarship programme is the result of an initiative being led by Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, with support from Lord Noon and other high profile figures in the Asian food industry at the launch event.
The scholarships have been made possible at the university with the support of the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) and Noon Products Ltd.
Students at the university's London School of Hospitality and Tourism will be demonstrating their extensive skills to the esteemed guests at the launch event in a cooking class.
The programme may be expanded to other colleges and universities if it is successful.
