Manali's weather blog for Tuesday 15 Jan

This cold weather is here to stay. Last night's snow stayed east of London, and so it wasacross parts of Essex and Kent that saw a covering of 2-3 Cm's. For all of us though it was a cold morning with freezingtemperatures overnight. Tonight expect another very cold night with a widespreadfrost.

I spoke on the programme last night about the cold weatheralert that has been triggered for London. The alerts are managed by the Department of Health and the Met Office. The alerts inform and raise awareness about the likelihood of a period of cold weather and allow carers for example,to provide support for those vulnerable to the cold. With the right level of planning the alerts can help to reduce pressure on health and social care services during the winter months.

So a level 3 alert remains in place across London this week as temperatures over the next 5 days will be at 2°C or less for a period of 48 consecutive hours.
