Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley has joined forces with Olympic cauldron designer Thomas Heatherwick to create a £150m "garden bridge" over the Thames.

The tree-lined crossing linking Temple tube station with the the headquarters of ITV on the South Bank is expected to open in 2017.

Lumley came up with the idea of a dual role bridge/garden 15 years ago. Heatherwick has used her vision as the basis of his plan.

A charitable trust has been created to raise the money for the project. Transport for London is contributing £4m.

The bridge, which will include mature trees, will be landscaped by celebrity gardener Dan Pearson.

Bizarrely, Heatherwick likened his design to the Titanic!
