London crowned world's most popular tourist destination
London looks set to have welcomed more than 16 million visitors in 2013, surpassing Paris's 2012 record of 15.9 million visitors.
Figures just released from the ONS showed that 4.9 million tourists visited last summer - well up on the 4 million who visited the city in the same period in the Olympic year.
The capital accounted for nearly half of all visits to the UK last summer topping the UK league table.
Visits to the UK July - September 2013:
- London - 4,877,000
- Rest of England - 4,479,000
- Scotland - 996,000
- Wales - 357,000
Total visits to all UK regions: 9,852,000
