Latest travel advice amid flood disruption

Rail operators are advising passengers to check with their particular travel company website before travelling for the latest on possible disruption to their journey.

  • All Virgin Trains services into and out of Euston Station are suspended after the train company advised passengers to 'abandon travel'. Chiltern services are accepting Virgin tickets for journeys between London and Birmingham.
  • Services to the South West out of Paddington continue to be the most disrupted as a result of flooding at Maidenhead and storm damage at Dawlish. The Advice to passengers is avoid Paddington if at all possible today as services are very limited.
  • A shuttle service is in operation today between Oxford and Didcot as a result of Thames flooding at Hinksey. This will limit the amount of services available.
  • Two of the three routes to Exeter remain open with the route via Bridgwater, through the Somerset Levels, closed with 3/4 mile of the line underwater.
  • The Windsor branch line is closed as a result of flooding from the Thames at Datchet. Services are terminating at Staines and onward road transport is available.
  • A landslip at Oxted has closed the branch lines to Uckfield and East Grinstead with service terminating at Woldingham with a shuttle service operating Uckfield / East Grinstead to Oxted.
  • The Tunbridge Wells to Hastings line is shut as a result of several major landslips along the route and will take several weeks to repair.
  • Trains are now able to run through Basingstoke following electrical supply problems. Delays of up to 60 minutes can still be expected. Some trains may be diverted via Guildford.
  • The Gatwick Express is subject to delays and cancellations due to signalling problems.
  • Services from London Victoria to Brighton are subject to major disruption as a result of signalling problems.
  • Trains between Dover Priory and London Victoria via Faversham may be delayed by up to 30 minutes.
  • Trains between Ashford International and London Victoria via Maidstone East may be delayed by up to 25 minutes.
  • Trains between Ashford International and London Charing Cross may be delayed by up to 20 minutes.
  • Trains between Basingstoke and Southampton may be delayed by up to 45 minutes because of an obstruction on the line - some services may be diverted to not call at stations between Basingstoke and Southampton Airport Parkway.
  • Trains are being delayed by up to 15 minutes between Purley and Caterham.
