As he sat down to watch the D-Day celebrations on Friday morning, 92-year-old Dixie Dean from Muswell Hill got a knock at the door.
He opened the door to a conman who said he had come to check the water supply. Dixie Dean's medals were then stolen in broad daylight.
During the war - company Quarter Master Sergeant Dean served in the Grenadier Guards. His medals were treasured possessions.
A £3,000 reward has been offered to find replicas of the medals. But Dixie says they were irreplaceable.
