Tesco's £5k donation after woman and guide dog told to leave store

The director of a Tesco store in north London has personally apologised to a blind woman who was told by staff at the store she had to leave because she had her guide dog with her.

Maya Makri said she had been left "outraged" and "upset" by the incident at a branch of Tesco is Swiss Cottage earlier this week.

The business apologised earlier today and as well as an apology from the the store manager, the company said it had also offered to make a £5,000 donation to Ms Makri's charity of her choice - guidedogs.org.uk.

Ms Makri, who moved to London to study from Leeds, thanked Londoners who have shown her their support since the incident and said Tesco had acknowledged a "great failing" in its training practices.
