British Airways jumbo forced to turn back to Heathrow after reports of a loud bang

A British Airways jumbo jet was forced to return to Heathrow shortly after taking off after reports from people living beneath the flight path of a loud bang.

The Boeing 747 - BA107 - had left Heathrow bound for Dubai around 1pm today.

It was while the aircraft was flying over Kent that residents there said they had heard a bang.

It is understood the crew had had a problem retracting the undercarriage and a decision had been made to turn back to Heathrow.

The aircraft landed safely back at Heathrow after a technical problem. We're sorry for the delay to our customer's journey.

They will soon be on another aircraft and on their way to Dubai.
