Hundreds of workers fear for their jobs as Tesco announces HQ closure

Hundreds of workers were today fearing for their jobs after Tesco announced the closure of its Hertfordshire head office.

The supermarket giant is also planning to axe more than 40 loss-making stores as part of a £250m cuts agenda. The total number of job losses could be in the thousands.

Tesco declined to say how many jobs would be affected by the closure of its headquarters at Cheshunt in Hertfordshire.

The company plans to move its main corporate office to an existing complex at Welwyn Garden City. Tesco sales have fallen by almost 3% in recent weeks.
