A police officer has been jailed for sexually assaulting a colleague while they were both on duty.

PC Rytis Gilys phoned a junior colleague with the offer of going to seize a vehicle with him.

The woman had only recently joined the police and accepted.

While the pair were parked in a quiet street, Gilys started talking to her about sex.

He then repeatedly touched her leg and then tried to get to her belt, but she managed to push him away.

When she complained about him, three other female colleagues said he had also assaulted them while they were on duty.

Gilys was cleared of four counts of sexual assault but found guilty of one count at Southwark Crown Court.

He was jailed for six months.

As a serving police constable, behaving in the way you did, can only be dealt with by an immediate custodial sentence.

– Judge Gledhill QC

PC Gilys abused the trust placed in him as a police officer and used his seniority in service to abuse a junior colleague.

No one should have to suffer such behaviour in any circumstances but for a police officer to behave in this way is even more disgraceful.
