Labour's Sadiq Khan is leading the race to be London Mayor, according to a live count of votes.

The results of the first preference votes counted so far using an electronic system gives an early indication that Mr Khan is line to take power at City Hall, followed closely by Tory Zac Goldsmith.

The official result is not expected until early evening, once both first and second choice votes have been counted.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has suggested that Mr Goldsmith's "smear" campaign against Mr Khan had helped Labour at the polling booths.

It's early days but London Elects continuous website shows a big bunch of votes for Sadiq Khan and a much smaller bunch of votes for Zac Goldsmith.

This vile campaign run by the Tories, the way they've tried to smear Sadiq Khan, the methods they've used and the language they've used, has had a very big effect in exactly the way they didn't want. So many people are just revolted by what was said about Sadiq yesterday they came out and voted for us.
