London mayor Sadiq Khan was today stepping up pressure on the government to fund a diesel scrappage scheme.
The mayor was expected to press Chancellor Philip Hammond to consider the proposal ahead of the Spring Budget on March 8th.
Mr Khan is calling on the Treasury to bankroll incentives to encourage motorists to trade in older diesel vehicles before the introduction of London's Ultra Low Emission Zone in 2020.
The mayor is also planning to level a £10 'Toxicity' charge on some high polluting diesels from October.
Mr Khan was this morning due to meet Mr Hammond to discuss 'London's needs', according to City Hall sources.
The mayor will also seek government support for Crossrail 2, increased police funding and further devolution of powers to City Hall.
