Both attacks happened in Hackney, east London, two days apart and the victims were followed by their attacker.

Police have released CCTV footage of a suspect and say both incidents are connected.

The first incident happened in Dalston, east London, when a 36-year-old woman walked home wearing headphones.

At around 12.20am she took out her phone to send a message but was grabbed from behind by a man who pushed her to the ground.

The second incident happened in the early hours of last Friday when a 35-year-old woman was walking home after a night out in Kingsland High Road.

At around 12.20am as she was walking home she noticed a man on the opposite side of the road, walking 20 metres behind her.

She kept walking but the man ran at her and pulled her to the ground and the victim screamed and passing taxi driver came to her aid.

It is now a week since the second attack and I have made the decision to release this CCTV footage in an urgent bid to identify the man responsible through the assistance of the public.

Substantial efforts have been made to retrieve images of the attacker and we have been able to secure footage of the entire incident from last Wednesday.

These were extremely frightening attacks on two lone women.

The hallmarks of both attacks, which are being treated as sexually motivated, due to the concerning conduct the suspect has demonstrated. They are strikingly similar and I remain convinced that the same man is responsible.
