Fraudsters behind fake handbag empire spared jail

A gang of fraudsters at the heart of a fake handbag empire have been spared jail despite having thousands of counterfeit goods were seized in raids.

The five conmen were handed a total of 700 hours community service at Basildon Crown Court after 1,200 counterfeit items were found in raids a Leytonstone lock-ups.

Also found were more than 5,000 unbranded bags and 7,500 branded badges which were ready to be converted into counterfeit goods.

Laura O'Keefe, 36, of Corringham, Kimberley Chalk, 41, of Grays, Toni Noonan, 45, of Grays, Jacklyn Grimes, 47, of South Ockendon and Mohammed Haydari, 37, of Barking, were all convicted over the plot.

This was a significant and long-running enterprise and it is clear that large quantities of income and profit were generated.
