A man stabbed to death in a shopping centre in east London is the 38th person to be murdered in the capital this year - with eight people killed in the last seven days.

The 21-year-old victim was attacked at around 9.30pm on Tuesday night.

At the Stratford Centre on Tuesday paramedics battled to save his life after he collapsed with knife wounds.

Police were called on Tuesday, 20 March at 21:30 hours to reports of a disturbance in Stratford Centre, The Broadway.

Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and found a man, believed to be in his early 20s, suffering from stab injuries.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services he was pronounced dead at the scene at 22:30 hours.

His next of kin have now been informed. Formal identification awaits and a post mortem examination will be held in due course.

At this early stage, it is believed that the victim and a friend were involved in an altercation with a group of young males before he was stabbed.
