Three people have died and 50 were injured, some seriously, after a coach heading from the Bestival music festival on the Isle of Wight to Merseyside overturned after hitting a tree on the A3 in Surrey.

Three people have been killed in Surrey on their way back from a music festival after the coach they were travelling in hit a tree.

The driver and two passengers have died and 50 others have been injured after the accident on the A3 just before midnight.

Investigators are still trying to discover the cause of the coach crash.

The coach was heading for London packed with people who had been at the Bestival music festival on the Isle of Wight. It hit a tree after coming off the A3 between the Hindhead Tunnel and the exit for Thursley.

New photos have been released of the scene at the A3 this morning in Surrey after a coach travelling back from Bestival crashed into a tree.

Police have reopened the A3 southbound at Hindhead Tunnel past the scene of the coach crash.

St Peter’s Hospital treats Surrey coach crash casualties

After three people were killed and others were left seriously injured when a coach thought to be returning from a music festival overturned after hitting a tree on an embankment, Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals responded to the incident.

In the early hours of this morning St Peter’s Hospital responded to a major incident following the coach crash near the Hindhead tunnel in Surrey.

The hospital received 23 casualties from the scene most of whom were walking wounded. The majority have now been discharged from the hospital.

Our thoughts are with the families of those who have lost their lives and those who are injured.

Our hospital and staff have coped extremely well and we don’t anticipate any major impact on other hospital services as a result of this incident.

Three killed as coach overturns

Three people died and others were left seriously injured when a coach overturned after colliding with a tree on an embankment.

The vehicle was travelling northbound on the A3 near Hindhead in Surrey at 11.50pm on Monday when it left the road between the Hindhead tunnel and the exit for Thursley. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.

Three people aboard the 51-seat coach were declared dead at the scene and a fourth passenger was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with life-changing injuries, Surrey Police said.
