A baby who was given a feeding bottle containing bleach by a woman from south east London has made a good recovery, a court heard today.
The jury heard from Peter Clark, prosecuting, that the incident took place on September 13 last year. He said:
A woman from south-east London who gave the baby of a complete stranger a feeding bottle containing bleach has been given a hospital order.
The 11-month-old boy drank some of the liquid and vomited after being handed the bottle in a branch of McDonald's, Woolwich Crown Court was told.
Elaine Joyner, 53, of Vaughan Williams Close, Deptford, was found to have administered a poison or noxious substance so as to endanger life by a jury last month.
A woman has been arrested after an 11-month-old boy was given a bottle feared to contain bleach as he sat in a fast food restaurant. The toddler swallowed some of the contents and immediately vomited, Scotland Yard said. He was taken to hospital for observation and his condition is stable.
The toddler was with his mother and grandmother in McDonald's, Eltham High Street, south-east London, when the incident occurred at around 12.40pm on Thursday. Detectives arrested a 53-year-old woman in Deptford. She was being questioned at a south London police station.
Officers have recovered the bottle and tests are being carried out to find out what it contained.
Detectives in Greenwich have arrested a 53-year-old woman in Deptford in connection with an incident in Eltham High Street on Thursday 13th September where a baby was given an unknown substance.
She remains in custody at a south London police station.
Police say that a woman, who's believed to have given a bottle of bleach to a baby in Eltham, was wearing black trousers, black trainers, a long multi coloured top, a black jacket with white chevron type markings and was carrying maroon bag.
She has also been described as "a heavily built white female in her 50s with grey hair".
A spokeswoman for London Ambulance Service said: "We were called just before 12.40 today to reports of an incident in Eltham High Street, and sent one crew.
"Our staff treated a baby boy who had been taken unwell, who was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich."
Police have issued an urgent warning to parents, after two babies were apparently given bottles of bleach by a woman on Eltham High Street.
The woman has been described as "heavily built with white hair" and aged around 50.
