A man, aged 27, was arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder.
A post-mortem will be held at 2pm today at Fulham mortuary.
Detective Inspector Craig Bradley said:
"I am appealing for any people who were in the area and witnessed this incident, or the events leading up to this incident, to come forward and speak to my team.
"At this early stage it is unclear what the motive for this incident was.
"If you saw anything, or have any information which may help the investigation, please get in contact."
Police have launched a murder investigation after a 65-year-old man was stabbed to death in west London.
Police were called out to Fulham High Street at around 7pm last night. They found a man, suffering from stab wounds, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
