Selfridges have said they do not believe they have committed any offence after the Food Standards Agency decided to prosecute them for installing raw milk vending machines in their Oxford Street store. Sales of raw milk are strictly controlled because of hygenie concerns.
The Food Standards Agency has said it will prosecute Selfridges Retail Limited after its Oxford Street store installed vending machines dispensing raw cow milk. The FSA believes the company is breaking regulations as consumers can only buy unpasteurised milk directly from a farm or a farmer.
However, the dairy farmer who supplies the milk, Stephen Hook from Sussex, has said he believes he has acted legally as he runs the vending machines as a concession.
