Merton Council's looking to introduce a time-specific waste collection scheme in Wimbledon.
Under the scheme there'll be time bands for how long residential and commercial waste can be left out for collection and the time it takes to be collected.
It will be piloted in Wimbledon Village and Wimbledon Town Centre.
The council says it aims to improve the cleanliness and overall street environment.
These are the key features of the scheme:
- Businesses and residents can only leave their waste sacks on the public highway between 5am to 6am and 5pm to 6pm
- Waste must be fully contained in an authorised sack
- Any waste left outside of these times will result in the producer being issued with a fixed penalty notice
If the scheme is successful in Wimbledon it will then be rolled out across other town centres in Merton.
Under new proposals residents in Merton would have to wake up at 5am to put their bins out to avoid a fixed penalty notice. The other slot they could take out their rubbish would be from 5pm to 6pm.
Collections of residential and commercial waste would then be timed to take place between 6-8am and from 6-8pm.
