Paul Elliott's resignation is understood to have been accepted by the Football Association after reports of a racism row.
Mr Elliott, an anti-racism campaigner, was part of the FA's judicial panel and a nominated member of UEFA committees.
The former Celtic and Chelsea defender has also left his role at Kick it Out - an anti discrimination body.
FA Chairman David Bernstein says '' the use of discriminatory language is unacceptable, regardless of context''.
