Caroline Pidgeon, Leader of the Liberal Democrats on the London Assembly says spreading the closures over such a long period of time is more disruptive to passengers.

In 2013 there will be five closures in which tunnel works will be carried out, although in all but one of these other essential work will be carried out at the same time. These include:
- Sunday 16 June and Sunday 6 October
- Bank holiday Monday 26 August
- One fullweekend: 12 and 13 October
- Christmas period: 25-30 December
- There will also be late start up at 11.00hrs onthree Sundays
In 2014 there will be nine closures when tunnel works take place, although only four are solely for tunnel works:
- Sundays: 12 January, 15 June, 17 August, 16November
- two full weekends: 1 and 2 February, 8 and 9March
- Saturday 1 March
- A five-day closure at Easter: 18-21 April
- A six-day closure at Christmas: 25-30 December
- There will be 17 late starts on Sundays in 2014
In 2015 some additional closures may be necessary to complete the work.
London Underground's Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines' programme director Stuart Harvey said today:
"All railways require a programme of maintenance and we will soon be carrying out work on the tunnel lining on a section of the Jubilee line.
This is part of ongoing maintenance and, due to the nature of the work, some closures during weekends will unfortunately be required between Finchley Road and Waterloo."
He went on: " We will be doing as much of the work as possible overnight; however, in some cases we need to carry on beyond normal overnight engineering hours and normal weekend services will not be able to operate.
I apologise to customers for the disruption. We'll be keeping the impact to a minimum by spreading the work out and including some later-starting services on Sunday mornings to minimise the overall number of closures."
The work - to the tunnel lining on the Jubilee line between Finchley Road and Waterloo - includes six-day closures of stations during Christmas 2013 and Christmas 2014. There will also be a closure of the section over Easter 2014.
The work covers a number of weekends and bank holiday periods from June this year to the end of 2014, with the possibility of some additional closures in 2015 in order to complete the maintenance.
