The family of a mother of three who died when trainee surgeons took out her ovary instead of her appendix have spoken of their revulsion at her treatment.

A pregnant woman died weeks after two trainee surgeons accidentally removed her ovary instead of her appendix. Maria De Jesus was admitted to Queen’s Hospital in Romford on 31 October when she developed stomach pains.
An inquest heard that tests carried out on the tissue removed in the operation showed it was from one of her ovaries, not her appendix. It was only on November 9, that doctors realised the mistake. This was the day she miscarried.
