CCTV of mosque arson attackers released

Police have released CCTV footage of the men they believe to be responsible for an arson attack on a mosque in Harlow on Monday.

In the footage, three men are seen approaching the Harlow Islamic Centre building.

One of the men is seen holding a drill while another can be seen with what police believe to be a canister of insulation foam.

Leaders of the Islamic Centre called the police after the attack when they found insulation foam sprayed under all of the shutters which cover the doors and windows.

Police are asking anyone who is able to identify the men to contact Harlow CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Mosque arson attack in Harlow

Members of an Islamic centre which suffered a suspected overnight arson attempt have said they are "very saddened" by what appears to be an anti-Muslim attack.

Police believe the incident at Harlow Islamic Centre in Paringdon Road, Harlow, Essex, took place between 10.30pm and 4am.

There had been a "concerted effort" to start the blaze by sealing entrances with foam so the fire would take hold, a member of the mosque said. Zia Rehman, the Islamic Centre's vice-chairman, said he suspects it may have been due to anti-Muslim prejudice.

Britain has seen a spike of hate crimes against Muslims in recent months following the death of Fusilier Lee Rigby outside Woolwich Barracks in south east London in May.
