A man is seriously ill in hospital after he was repeatedly stabbed when he confronted burglars inside his home.
Detectives believe the 47-year-old was trying to protect his wife and daughter after they were woken by a noise in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A 47-year-old man is being treated in hospital after he was stabbed by burglars during a break-in at his home in Luton.
Three men are believed to have forced their way into the man's home in Wellfield Avenue, in the early hours of the morning as his family slept.
He was awoken by a noise and went downstairs to investigate.
Bedfordshire Police said the man was stabbed several times when he confronted the burglars at around 3.25am on Saturday morning.
The men then fled on foot.

This was anappalling attack on a family man within his own home and I would urge anyonewith information to come forward and speak with us.
While thevictim has suffered some very nasty injuries, he is in a stable condition andhas responded very well to treatment."
Police said theburglars were believed to be three black males aged around 20 years of age.
