Boris Johnson made light of the furore over Maria Miller's expenses, telling ITV News that "if things go wrong" for the Culture Secretary she should be able to find a job in London's burgeoning life sciences sector.
ITV London News' Political Correspondent Simon Harris tweeted:
Boris Johnson has officially launched MedCity which is aiming to make London and the south east the world's leading region for life sciences within 20 years.
MedCity will bring together some of London, Oxford and Cambridge's top academic and industry leaders to put the region at the "forefront of scientific innovation".
The organisation said it wants to attract major corporations to the capital as well as to assist small companies in producing new academia and products.
The Mayor of London said the organisation would play a crucial role in creating thousands of new jobs and producing new drugs to tackle diseases such as cancer, dementia and diabetes.
