A detective has been charged over a string of allegations relating to the way he handled rape and sex assault investigations. Carl Ryan is accused of signing witness statements himself and incorrectly informing a suspect of a decision to prosecute.

The 34-year-old has been charged with six counts of misconduct in public office including failing to advance the forensic side of investigations when he was working with the Met Police's unit which deals with rape and sexual assault cases.
