A life size statue of Dame Kelly Holmes has been created after a survey of Britons found that she was the British woman the nation would most like to see celebrated for their lifetime achievements.
The survey by Sure Maximum Protection found that 89 per cent of British people believe that more women should be honoured with statues in high profile locations, with 83 per cent admitting that modern day men receive more recognition for their achievements than their female counterparts.
The poll to find the nation's top 10 influential and strong British women saw Jessica Ennis in second place. JK Rowling, Joanna Lumley, Dame Vivienne Westwood, Adele, Katie Piper, Kate Winslet, Karren Brady, Nigella Lawson and Victoria Beckham were also popular with the poll's respondents.
