A teenager has admitted illegally possessing a gun which went off by accident, injuring a five-year-old boy.
18 year old Johnny Wilson was looking after the child and an eight-year-old at his home in Essex when the incident happened in November last year.
Basildon Crown Court heard that the children were playing a game of cops and robbers after finding the gun on Wilson's bed when the shot was fired.
Wilson, from Wickford, admitted possessing a firearm without a certificate and possession of cannabis on Friday, the court confirmed.
The child was seriously injured in his left eye and taken to Basildon Hospital before being transferred to the Royal London.
Wilson is due to be sentenced at a date in July.

A 95-year-old woman has been left with a black eye, cut head and fractured pelvis after confronting burglars inside her home in Essex.
The woman was attacked after three men wearing hoodies forced their way in through a first-floor window of a house in Wickford. After the assault, they ran off with cash and her house keys.
Nearly 400 cannabis plants have been seized by police from a house in Wickford in Essex.
Police officers raided the property at around 3pm yesterday.
Officers found an outbuilding with three purpose built rooms, with fans and hydroponics, full of cannabis plants.
A firearm was also found and seized along with the drugs.
A 56-year-old man from Wickford was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis with the intent to supply and is still being questioned in custody this morning (May 30).
Sgt Dave Darnell, of Essex Police, said: "I am pleased that a large quantity of drugs has been seized and will no longer be hitting the streets of this area.
"Where we receive good information from the community about who they suspect may be committing crime in their area, we will act. I urge you if you know who is involved in drugs to contact us immediately so we can take robust action.”
Police have released a CCTV image in an appeal for information, following an armed robbery in Essex.
A man armed with a handgun entered the Chelmsford Star Co-Op in Wickford on March 7 and demanded cash from the shop assistant.
PC Phil McCorkell, from the Basildon serious crime team, said: "The worker was thankfully not injured in this incident, but was threatened and has been left very shaken by the whole ordeal."
