London Lifeboat Day

It's London Lifeboat Day today

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is fundraising today, to mark the tenth anniversary of lifeboats on the Thames.

The search and rescue service was set up in London in 2002 in the wake of the Marchioness disaster in 1989 - when 51 people drowned.

A new survey shows only one in six Londoners is able to spontaneously name the RNLI as an emergency service operating on the capitals river.

Today is 'London lifeboat Day' when the charity is allowed to collect cash at any public place inside the M25.
