Sir Richard Branson has lost the battle to continue running the London to Scotland West Coast Main Line.

The government has announced that a new 13-year franchise has been awarded to transport giant FirstGroup, rather than Mr Branson's Virgin Rail company, which has been operating on the line since 1997.
