Serious violence among young people fallen dramatically

Serious violence among young people has fallen dramatically since the Metropolitan Police launched its crackdown on gangs six months ago.

Shootings have dropped by a fifth - and knife attacks are down by a nearly a third.

The Met says that more than one and a half thousand gang members have been arrested - and 125 weapons taken off the streets of London.

The Trident Gang Crime unit is also working with partner agencies to divert young people away from gangs, through mentoring and drug-treatment programmes.
