Open verdict on missing man's death

A London man who had been missing for more than a month was found dead in a remote spot in west Wales, an inquest has heard.

Ronald Edward Francis was last seen alive in May this year after visiting his parents near the Beckton area of the capital.

But the unemployed 48-year-old, who battled a mental illness for decades, mysteriously vanished without trace.

His badly decomposed body was later discovered on land between Cwm Celyn and Llandeilo-Abercowin farms near Llandybie, Carmarthenshire, on June 29.

Carmarthenshire coroner Mark Layton said the deceased was so decomposed that identification had only been possible via DNA testing.

He added a post-mortem had failed to shed any light on how Mr Francis, of Beryl Avenue, Beckton, east London, had died.
