Freight containing class A drugs found at Heathrow Airport

Border Force officers at Heathrow Airport have halted one batch of unwelcome gifts this Christmas – three paintings containing class A drugs.

The pictures, which contained opium hidden within the frames, were found on Christmas Day by staff carrying out checks on freight.

The consignment was being shipped from Iran to Canada, via London.

It is estimated the drugs, which are estimated to have weighed around 10 kilos, could have had a potential value of approximately £150,000.

Investigations are ongoing.
