Anthony Munroe, 18, is accused of murdering Dogan Ismail on an estate in Walworth, south east London, on December 30.
Dogan was killed on the Aylesbury Estate after going there with his 15-year-old brother, Orhan Ismail, to recover his phone which had been stolen two days earlier.
There they encountered a group of four males and, during an "altercation", the victim was fatally injured, police said.
Munroe is in custody and will appear at Hendon Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
Police are still looking to trace 15-year-old Dawda Jallow, from Peckham, south east London, to question him over the murder.
