Five London councils have announced that they intend to raise council tax, despite Government calls for a freeze. Two will introduce small cuts. Croydon, Bromley, Kingston, Harrow and Lewisham all intend to make increases of between 1.2 and 2 per cent.
Hammersmith and Fulham is proposing a cut of 3 per cent, while Hounslow intends to cut by 0.5 per cent.
Wandsworth plans to enact a freeze but hopes to claw back money from other aspects of the budget to fund an increase. Despite the changes, to be voted on on 6 March, the South London borough still insists it will on average have the UK’s lowest council tax.
