A group of cheerleaders in Southend are launching a campaign to get young women back into sport.
They say many give up at 16 because of the embarrassments and preoccupations of being a teenager.
The cheerleaders from the Essex Star Squad say young women are missing out on the many benefits of sport.
Sport England say girls are more likely than boys to drop physical education once they leave school- just 30% of female university students currently playing sport regularly.
