Royal Ascot punters were counting their losses after many failed to guess the colour of the Queen's hat. The monarch wore a lilac hat as she processed along the famous course in a carriage with the Duke of York and her grandson Peter Phillips and his wife Autumn.
Trying to pick the hue of the monarch's headgear is a tradition at the famous Berkshire meet where fashion is just as important as the spectacle of horse racing. Earlier in the day the colour blue was the hot favourite with many bookmakers closely followed by yellow.
But William Hill and Coral stopped taking bets after suspicions were raised by a number of large punts on the colours grey and silver. The Queen's lilac outfit was by Angela Kelly, and consisted of a silk print dress with a floral design, double breasted coat and a matching hat.
