Cycle Superhighway 2: Whitechapel Road

20-year-old Boris Bike user Philippine Degerin-Ricard was killed in a collision with a lorry in Whitechapel last weekend.

Now campaigners say the section of the cycle superhighway on Whitechapel Road where she died needs urgent improvement to make it safe.

Whitechapel Road facts:

  • 1,100 lorries use the route everyday.
  • In all 30,000 vehicles travel on Whitechapel Road everyday.
  • 600 cyclists pass through every hour.

There have been new calls for urgent action to improve one of east London's main cycling routes, following the death of a 20-year-old student last weekend.
