Met Police constable cleared of rape

A police constable was today cleared of repeatedly raping a woman.

Metropolitan Police officer Errol Patterson, who serves at Lambeth police station, was found not guilty following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court.

Pc Patterson, of Leyton, east London, was cleared of raping the woman five times over a period from 2005 to 2011.

A court official said the jury of eight men and four women returned a unanimous verdict.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the force would make a decision on whether to begin its own disciplinary proceedings against the officer.
