'Splendid' boy stabbed in London

A 16-year-old boy who was killed in a knife attack in east London has been described as a "splendid young man" by his headteacher. The teenager, Ajmol Alom, was attacked in Spey Street, Poplar, at around 9.50pm on Monday.

19 year old in court charged with murder

19 year old Aminur Khan, of Robin Hood Gardens, Poplar appeared in court today accused of stabbing 16-year-old Ajmol Alom to death on Monday night.

Ajmol, who has been described as a star pupil, was wounded in the thigh during the incident in Spey Street, Poplar.

Khan is also charged with the attempted murder of Ajmol's friend Azime Rob, also 16, who was stabbed through the cheek.

Both were taken to hospital, where Ajmol died.
