Police officer sentenced for assault

A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been sentenced for assaulting a prisoner last February. PC Rohan Scarlett has been ordered to carry out a three month community order, a curfew, and to pay compensation to his victim.

PC Scarlett assaulted a prisoner while transporting him from Islington to Lewisham.

"I appreciate that there was alleged provocation in this case, but police officers are expected to remain professional at all times; irrespective of provocation. PC Scarlett failed to remain professional; he reacted and has paid the price of being convicted at court. Now that the criminal proceedings are complete the misconduct process can continue."
