In some places 90% of children received places at first choice of secondary schools

The notifications marked the end of an anxious wait for many parents who were keen to find out which secondary schools their children would be attending in the next academic year.

In some parts of the region well over ninety per cent have been given a place at the school of their choice - but in other areas as many as one in three will have been disappointed.

Our Social Affairs correspondent Christine Alsford has been finding out whether results are the only reason why some schools are hugely oversubscribed while others struggle to fill their classrooms.
