Manston Airport is up for sale. The shock announcement casts a question mark over the future of more than 100 staff employed at the Kent International Airport. Owners Infratil made the announcement at an investor day in Wellington, New Zealand today. Its other UK airport, Prestwick near Glasgow, is also up for sale. Infratil's decision arises from a 'refocusing of its investment profile'.
Roger Gale MP said: "You either look at situations like this as a disaster or as an opportunity. Manston I believe has huge unrealised potential. There's a tremendous demand for airport space in the South East of England, Heathrow is full we've got to clear some space there, Gatwick is full we've got to clear some space there. Manston is ideally located to help out in the short to medium term, if we don't do that then we shall lose our prime position as a hub airport destination for Europe."
